The risk of skin cancer and the dangers of over exposure to the sun’s ultra violet rays are well documented and the use of sunbeds to maintain a tan is strongly advised against too. Exposure to the sun’s ultra violet rays also speeds up the natural ageing process - causing 90% of wrinkling, sagging, rough skin texture and irregular skin colourations. So, Xen-Tan offers a safe and sunless way to tan and all our products help you achieve a streak-free natural olive glow without exposing your skin to the dangers of the sun or sunbeds.   • What is DHA?

    DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is the active ingredient used in sunless tanning products.It is a sugar molecule that reacts to the amino acids or proteins on thesurface of the skin. The level of DHA controls how dark and natural the colour looks. Too much DHA canresult in a “rusty” look and too little DHA can result in an ineffective tanthat fades too quickly. Xen-Tan uses a high level of DHA, but is carefully formulated for a dark, natural tan and balanced with moisturising ingredients to guarantee a smooth, streak-free application and tan.

As a red-head with a very fair complexion, Dera envied people with a natural olive undertone to their skin and endlessly tried different brands of self-tan to give colour to her skin without success. The chemical smells and unnatural colours were a constant disappointment. Using her 15 years of experience in make-up artistry and product development, Dera created the beautiful olive undertones of Xen-Tan’s products and found the solution to her problem. Not only are Xen-Tan formulas, textures and colours superior, but the scents like Cherry Almond, Vanilla and Coconut are delicious. You can actually look forward to wearing the products while you tan. Xen-Tan products are never “perfumey” and never orange. Xen-Tan is dedicated to innovation and formulas can take years of research to produce so that only quality products that work for every skin tone are delivered. The secret behind the natural looking self-tan is a time-release agent. The time-release agent in our products controls the amount of the sunless tan ingredient, DHA (dihydroxyacetone) released on the skin during application. When released too quickly, DHA creates the unpleasant odours and trademark orange finish. Xen-Tan’s time-release process leaves flawless andnatural results every time.

  • I'm a beginner what's the best tan for me to start with?

    If you’re trying self-tan for the first time, just take it easy and use a little at a time – there’s no rush and you’ll soon get the hang of it. Mousse Intense is ideal for first time tanners as its easy glide formula allows you to control the depth of colour and it has a very light / sheer instant colour too. Alternatively Transform Luxe is also a good choice for beginners as it allows you to build a smooth and flawless sun-kissed glow gradually

  • Do I need to exfoliate before tanning?

    All Xen-Tan products are formulated to work on their own and so whilst exfoliating is not essential, we do recommend preparing your skin with an oil-free product such as our Body Scrub , focussing on areas prone to dryness such as elbows, knees and ankles. Exfoliation helps to refine the skin for a smoother tan and effective preparation and aftercare can add a day or two to the length of your tan.

  • How do I apply Xen-Tan?

    If you’re trying self-tan for the first time, just take it easy and use a little at a time – there’s no rush and you’ll soon get the hang of it. Directions are on the bottle and you can also read our handy application guide here .However, for most products you just apply in circular motions. We do offer a Luxury Tanning Mitt to help achieve a smooth and even application. It speeds up application time too. Careful Application , preparation and aftercare all contribute to achieving that perfect flawless look at home.

  • How do I apply self-tan to my back?

    If you’ve not got someone you can trust to help you out when it comes to applying self-tan to your back, our Hard to Reach Applicator is the perfect solution. The handy applicator works with any of our self-tan formulations to make tanning those hard to reach places such as back, upper arms and legs a breeze.

  • How can I prevent tell-tale signs on my hands?

    To avoid obvious signs that your tan is of the sunless kind, we strongly recommend using a mitt to apply your self-tan. As well as protecting your hands from the give away brown palms, mitts give a smooth and even application. The Xen-Tan Luxury Tanning Mitt is ideal and speeds up application time too.

  • How much product should I apply?

  • How many applications will I get from my Xen-Tan application?

    Obviously this depends on your chosen Xen-Tan product, how much you apply and how often.However, as a guide, 30ml of product should provide one full application for face and body. For example, our best selling Dark Lotion , available in a 236ml pump, shouldprovide between seven and eight full body

  • How long will Xen-Tan take to develop?

    Most of our products develop within just three hours. Technology has changed rapidly in the world of sunless tanning and what used to take eight hours now takes only three. Several Xen-Tan products also contain an “instant” colour too which gives you a tanned look immediately – no need to wait for the tan to develop before you head out. You can still sleep in your self-tan lotion, mousse or spray if you prefer, but because of Xen-Tan’s great scent and lighter texture, tanning during the day is now an option too.   • How long do I need to leave my Xen-Tan on before showering?

    Most Xen-tan products develop in just three hours after application so you can wait three hours and then wash it off. For the best possible results, we would suggest leaving it on for seven to eight hours. Thanks to its delicious scent, you can apply Xen-Tan first thing and feel confident wearing it all day.

  • What should I wear whilst my Xen-Tan develops?

    For most products, we do recommend wearing darker clothes while your Xen-Tan is developing. However, with Luminous Gold Gel , a clear gel with a gentles parkle, there is no guide colour which means you can apply with confidence and slip straight in to your little black white dress!

  • How long does Xen-Tan last for?

    Xen-Tan self-tan products give great results which last for seven days. This can be extended by using our gradual tan, Transform Luxe as a tan extender. Xen-Tan’s instant tan, Ins-Tan-Taneous is transfer resistant and stays on until you wash it off – you can even sleep in it!

  • How do I keep my tan looking great?

    Once you’ve applied your tan, it’s worth following a few simple steps to guarantee the amazing results last as long as possible. • Avoid tight clothing while your tan is developing. We recommend wearing dark, loose clothing immediately after application. • Don’t shower, bathe or swim until you have allowed the self-tan to develop. • We recommend using a gentle oil-free exfoliator such as the Xen-Tan Body Scrub approximately three days after applying your self-tan. It has a light granular texture that leaves skin feeling wonderfully smooth and used over time can help extend your tan. • Tan extenders like Transform Luxe are also an ideal way to prolong the life of your tan. Packed with skin-nourishing moisturisers, they give your skin an indulgent treat and ensure your sun-kissed colour stays fresh for longer and fades evenly. • Moisturise regularly to keep skin hydrated. We recommend Scent Secure, an oil-free face and body moisturiser enriched with powerful ingredients which leave skin feeling beautifully nourished, lifted and firmed.

  • Which Xen-Tan product gives the darkest tan?

  • Can I use Xen-Tan on my face and body?

    All Xen-Tan products are safe for face and body. However, we do make products that are specifically formulated for the face. These products are gentle and have added treatment ingredients. Face Tanner, £16.99 is packed with powerful antioxidants that help nourish and protect the skin from damaging environmental factors. Face Tanner does not contain instant colour. FaceTanner Luxe, £19.99 has all the benefits of Face Tanner , but with an instant colour. Both products are lightweight, so you can apply them every day as part of your facial care routine and enjoy gorgeous results, with or without make-up.

  • Is Xen-Tan suitable for all skin types?

    Yes, Xen-Tan is suitable for men and women of all ages, all skin types and all skin tones.

  • Does Xen-Tan protect you from the sun?

    No. Xen-Tan products do not contain any SPF, so always make sure you use a high factor sun cream in addition to your self-tan when you’re out in the sun. We recommend using an oil-free cream to help maintain your Xen-Tan for longer.

  • Is Xen-Tan paraben free?

    The majority of Xen-Tan products are paraben free. Only two products currently contain parabens, Dark Lotion and Perfect Bronze .

  • Are Xen-Tan products gluten free?

    Open

    Xen-Tan products do not contain glutens. However, they are processed in laboratories that make all kinds of products and so it is possible that they could come into contact with glutens. Dera (the creator of Xen-Tan) is gluten-intolerant and eats a special gluten-free diet but has never experienced a problem using Xen-Tan products. We would always recommend that if you have a serious allergy to glutens, that you check with your doctor before using any Xen-Tan product.

  • Do Xen-Tan products contain nuts?

    The majority of Xen-tan products do not contain nuts or nut extracts. Dark Lotion contains nut extracts, but all other products are nut free. If you have a nut allergy, you should always consult your doctor before using any product containing nut extracts. Deep Bronze Luxe and Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe are great alternatives to Dark Lotion , so if you do have a nut allergy, you can still enjoy a healthy,natural-looking glow.

  • What ingredients does Xen-Tan contain?

  • What is Optimum Complex-30™?

  • Is Xen-Tan tested on animals?

    Absolutely not! All Xen-Tan products are cruelty free. Xen-Tan do not test on animals.

  • What fragrance does Xen-Tan have?

    Each Xen-Tan product has a different light and delicious fragrance. Xen-Tan uses scent to makeself-tanning more pleasant, but it has other benefits too. Xen-Tan use light food scents because, unlike the “perfumey” alternatives, humans don’t get tired of these. By using clean, fresh scents, both men and women naturally associate good feelings with tanning, creating a lighter, happier mood. For example, Mist Intense and Mousse Intense have a light vanilla scent, while Moroccan Tan and Luminous Gold Gel both have a Fresh Tropical Scent. Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe contains higher levels of DHA than any other Xen-Tan product and so also contains Xen-Tan’s revolutionary Scent Secure oil-free moisturiser to completely lock out any chemical odour leaving nothing but a delicious vanilla scent.

  • I'm very fair skinned; can I still use Xen-Tan?

    Yes! It’s true that in the past, most self-tan products have looked best on people who already have a tan. However, Xen-Tan sunless tanning products are formulated to flatter people with even the fairest skin tones. Technology within the self-tanning market has improved greatly and it is now possible to produce a very realistic colour that makes even the fairest skin look naturally darker. The dark-tanning formulas are actually better for fair skin than lighter-tanning products. If you’re nervous of dark “instant” colour, try Mousse Intense which results in the same beautiful dark tan, but has a very light / sheer instant colour. Xen-Tan is great for fair skin – you can now enjoy a beautiful tan without the damage of the sun or sunbeds.

  • I have very dry skin; can I still use Xen-Tan?

    Yes! All Xen-Tan products are packed with moisturisers that penetrate deep into your skin to prevent dry patches from occurring. This also makes it easier to apply to problem areas such as hands and feet. Checkout our handy application guide here to help get the best results from Xen-Tan.

  • Do I need to do a patch test?

    We would always recommend carrying out a patch test 24-48 hours in advance to ensure that you do not suffer an adverse reaction to the DHA or other ingredients in Xen-Tan products. For example, Dark Lotion contains nut extracts and so if you suffer from a nut allergy you may need to use one of our alternative self-tan products.

  • Can I use Xen-Tan if I am pregnant or breast feeding?

    It is generally considered to use self-tan creams and lotions during pregnancy. However, we recommend always speaking to your doctor before using any cosmetic product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Read more on the NHS website

  • Why should I use oil-free products when I am self-tanning?

    If you use an oil-based moisturiser or body scrub before self-tanning, the oil can sit on the skin, creating a barrier that can cause self-tanners to streak and the colour to fade faster.

  • Can I wax or shave before self-tanning?

    Yes. Use a gentle oil-free exfoliator such as the Xen-Tan Body Scrub approximately three days after applying your self-tan.   • What size tubes is the Xen-Tan available in?

    Xen-Tan products vary in size. For example, cult favourite Dark Lotion contains 236ml whilst Luminous Gold Gel is 148ml. We also offer 30ml miniatures of most of our tans in our online shop which provide one full application for face and body. These are a great way to try out a tan and see which colour and texture you prefer before committing to the full size bottle.

  • Can I get a Xen-Tan sample?

  • Once opened how long will Xen-Tan last?

    Assuming your Xen-Tan has been stored under normal conditions, you will be able to use up to 6 months after first opening. This is known as the PAO (Period AfterOpening). Unopened, your Xen-Tan can be stored for 18 months.

  • Unopened, how long can I keep my Xen-Tan for?

    Unopened, your Xen-Tan can be stored for 18 months. This is known as the Shelf Life. Once opened, assuming it has been stored under normal conditions, you will be able to use for up to 6 months.

  • How do I place my Xen-Tan order?

    Standard delivery is between 2-4 working days, but we always try our hardest to get your order to you within 2 days if we can. Please be aware that orders placed over weekends and during public holidays may take slightly longer to process. We also offer a next-day delivery option If you'd like your items to arrive quicker.

  • Can I change my Xen-Tan order?

    You can ask, and we’ll do our best, but please be aware that Xen-Tan orders placed before 2pm are usually dispatched the same working day and so it may not always be possible.

  • Can I add an item to Xen-Tan order?

    Sorry, but we cannot add an item to your Xen-Tan order. Once your payment has been processed, we are unable to make changes to it and you will need to place a new order. As standard delivery to the UK and Ireland is FREE, it will not cost you any more to place a second order for the item you forgot. If you place a second order and let us know quickly here , we’ll do our best to ensure they are sent together so that you only receive one delivery.

  • Can I cancel my Xen-Tan order?

    You can, but please be quick. We aim to dispatch all Xen-Tan orders placed before 2pm the same working day and so we may be unable to stop it from being dispatched to you. However, you still have a legal right to cancel your contract with us at any time within 14 days without giving reason.The cancellation period expires14 days from the day after you receive the products. You must also return the products to us as soon as reasonably practicable and at your own cost. You will receive a full refund of the price paid for the products.

    Sorry,whilst Royal Mail may deliver your Xen-Tan order on a Saturday, we cannot guarantee delivery on a Saturday. Our Next Day delivery service does not include Saturdays and so an order placed before 2pm on a Friday with Next Day delivery would be delivered on Monday.

  • When will my Xen-Tan order be dispatched?

  • Which courier do you use?

    If you have selected Next Day Delivery, your Xen-Tan order will be sent with DPD. All other orders will be sent via Royal Mail.

  • Can I cancel my Xen-Tan order?

  • How long will it take to process my refund?

    We will refund you within 14 days of your receiving your returned order and we will email you when your refund has been processed. The money maytake 3-6 working days to show in your account. Unfortunately these time scales are dependent on your card issuing bank and are completely out of our control. Once we have issued the refund, there is nothing we can do to make this go back in to your account any quicker.
