get the perfect safe tan with xen-tan

Every year, the British Skin Foundation launches national Sun Awareness Week, in an effort to remind Britons about the importance of protection and detection of skin cancers. Awareness of the dangers of the sun has increased, however the British appetite for a golden, glowing tan hasn’t.

A survey conducted by Xen-Tan found that 87% of respondents agreed that using Xen-Tan gives them a gorgeous, natural looking tan that doesn’t smell and fades evenly* – what we all desire from a safe sunless tan.

Here are some insider tips from Xen-Tan’s Tanning Expert Natalie Roche to make sure your tan looks fantastic, lasts as long as possible and fades naturally, so that you have a perfect Xen-Tan glow all summer long.

Most of us know that prepping the skin is vital for getting a perfect tan.  Exfoliating 12-24 hours before applying your tan will remove dead skin cells prior to application, and moisturise drier areas just before applying your tan to avoid it clinging and causing an uneven colour.  Exfoliating and moisturising after application will also help prolong you tan; however, not many people know that the key is to use oil-free products, as oil-based ones can break up your colour. Avoid those rich oily scrubs and heavy moisturisers to keep your tan!

TRY: Xen-Tan Body Scrub and Xen-Tan Scent Secure, an oil-free moisturiser that also blocks out any self-tan odours caused by DHA.

Using a mitt to apply your tan is the key to a salon-perfect application. It allows you to blend the product easily on the skin, plus it saves your palms from any tell-tale tanning stains. Apply your tan from your feet upwards to avoid creasing and smudging as you go, buffing the tan on in circular motions to get a streak-free finish.

TRY: Xen-Tan Luxury Tanning Mitt.

For the face, a great trick is to apply the tan directly to your forehead and cheeks and blend with a foundation brush, or  a cotton wool pad. TOP TIP: Don’t over apply tan in the eye area, as it can darken under eye circles!

The active tanning ingredient in self-tans is DHA, which can be quite drying to the skin, so make sure that your newly tanned skin doesn't get dehydrated.  Always moisturise after tanning as it will prolong your colour and keep it looking smooth.  A great way to keep top up your tan and nourish skin between applications is to use a gradual product like Xen-Tan Transform or Transform Luxe, which will give your colour a boost.
